9 Weeks Post Op Update

Well, here we are, 9 weeks post op.....here's a rundown of where I am in the "healing" process...
-Physical Therapy 3 times per week for 2 hours each time (stretches, stim, ultra sound, exercises,...)
-When I'm home I wear a lace up ankle brace with my sneaker, I'm allowed to walk around in it, not up and down the steps
-Wear the boot at work and anytime that I'm out of the house

It's going OK, but then I'll be walking around in the boot and then all of a sudden I get those sharp stabbing pains again, they feel very similar to the ones I had before the surgery....they can last for anywhere from 10-40 steps, when it happens it's very hard to keep walking, and super painful. I've talked to the PT about it and talked to the Dr today, they say it's hard to tell what it means, but that most people don't experience pain when they're in the boot, we're going to continue on the plan and keep transitioning out of the boot, but I have to be honest...right now I'm not feeling so good about any of this.
I know it's very early in the recovery period, but it's definitely starting to wear on me. I need to find something else that I can do (right now) that I will enjoy, give me something to look forward to.....(what am I going to do....knit?). I have been going to the gym 3-4 times per week and doing upper body, but of course without any cardio the "crutch weight" (about 8 pounds) isn't going to vanish, and the extra pounds aren't helping in the "happiness" department. It's just so frustrating right now, on one hand I keep saying to myself "why did I have this surgery????", but then I remember that 3 Doctors told me I needed to have it......
Sorry that this is such a bitchy post, I'm just stuck right now.
I miss blogging about fun running stuff, but I'm glad that I still get to read all of yours!

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time and feeling down. I was miserable after not being able to run for 4 weeks so it's gotta stuck. Hang in there and know that we're thinking of you!

I didn't have to have surgery, but I was off running for almost 12 weeks, and off all cardio for about 8, so I know how frustrating it can be. I'm sorry you're having a hard time, but I'm confident it will be better soon. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you!

Hang in there, Marg...just like you are virtually supporting people who run, there are people who run that are virtually supporting you too...like me.

Those 8 pounds are nothing compared to your willpower. You've come THIS far in your recovery already, and you've been so positive about it, you're not going to let a little setback bring you down now, right?

To me, since i'm preparing for another marathon, it's like you've toughed it out for 22 miles...and now there's just 4.2 more to go...so what are you going to do?

The hardest part is already over. Stay positive. Find constructive thoughts to occupy the mind and your body will follow.

Sorry to hear that the healing is going slow. Sometimes it just takes time. Hang in there, it will get better. Thinking of you.

I too was out of running for about 10 weeks with a broken too. I know that is no where near what you are going through but in a way I understand.

You have an amazing attitude and I hope you heal quickly!!!

Oh hun, I am sorry to hear about your frustrations. I can't even imagine. I hope it gets better, and you are off to a faster recovery!

Hi! Long time reader first time commentor. Even though your recovery may be slower than you had hoped, it it not over. I was out for years and have finally been able to reach a 10K. Slow and steady will get you healed!! Keep up the gym workouts, it will help keep your mind of things.
